There are four parts Medicare
Part A: Hospital (this coverage is automatic and typically at no cost). This pays for in-patient hospital services, nursing facility care, home health care and hospice care.
Part B: Doctor (you elect this coverage and there is a premium. This pays for medical expenses, clinical laboratory services and outpatient hospital treatment.
Part C: Medicare Advantage (you elect this coverage and there may be a premium)
Part D: Prescription Drug Coverage (you choose to elect this coverage and there is a premium). This pays for generic and brand name prescription drugs.
Medicare has deductibles and coinsurances that you will have to pay for certain covered services. There are ways to fill in the gaps, either by enrolling in a Medicare Supplement plan, or a Medicare Advantage Plan.
